Recent KCC Events

Interim Cannabis Committee Meeting October 2024

A committee of Kansas Legislators met in Topeka before the 2025 session to gather more information about medical cannabis. President Cheryl Kumberg spoke to the Interim Committee members providing information about patient needs related to medical cannabis and cannabis programs/apps and information available to healthcare providers. KCC also hosted a morning snack table for the legislators. We were expecting a recommendation from the committee that encouraged the passage of a medical cannabis bill in 2025, but we did not get that. The committee did pass a recommendation to meet in January to discuss this further. Once again, we heard the now famous "we need to talk about this more" phrase. We shall see what happens in January.

Cannabis Justice League Wichita Event October 2024

The Kansas Cannabis Justice Coalition held an event at Botanica in Wichita to raise awareness about cannabis issues and highlight local candidates who were supportive of medical cannabis. KCC participated in a panel discussion. President Cheryl answered questions about medical cannabis and Past Vice- President and co-owner of High Point Pharms Nate Hiatt addressed Hemp questions. Other Panelists were KCC Advisor Barry Grissom and Sarah Stephens Selmon owner of Hempys Heart hemp products, and Inga Selders President, Kansas Cannabis Justice Coalition. The cannabis expertise and experience sitting at that table was amazing!

Day of Action at the Capitol

The weather was not our friend for this event and sadly the live event was canceled and presented virtually. Thankfully we arrived in Topeka the night before the event, and we kept our scheduled meetings with legislators and staff. We could not have accomplished our goals without the support of our wonderful lobbyists! Without continued financial support from like-minded people across the state we would not be accomplishing our goal of being heard at the state level. Quite by accident we ended up standing in front of this mural for a group photo.  It expresses how we felt telling everyone who would listen that suffering Kansans matter and we need good legislation passed now.

Old Town Farm & Art Market

Saturday October 14th found us in the Old Town Farm & Art Market in Wichita.  The weather was cold, windy and cloudy.  The crowds were down but we were not!  Thanks to Board Member Nate Hiatt, his  parents with High Point Pharms, and the Old Town Farm & Art Market for the booth space. As usual there is a LOT of support from the public for passing a medical cannabis bill.  We cannot understand why legislators in leadership positions fail to understand this fact. As always, we will be out and about educating the public about cannabis and all the issues surrounding its ban in Kansas. See you at our next event!

Andover Days

Saturday September 30th KCC took part in Andover Days. Nate brough his grandfather's antique truck, we carried a KCC Banner, and walked in the parade. We were met with standing ovations and clapping as we handed out candy and green Mardi gras beads along the parade route. At our vendor table we educated residents about cannabis and political issues that Kansans are facing. Thank you to everyone who walked in the parade and manned the vendor table, we made a positive impact. We look forward to continuing educational opportunities in Andover and surrounding towns.

Capitol Events 2023

During the Kansas Legislative session, KCC board members and advisors met with legislators, brought in cannabis experts, and testified as proponents in favor of passing a medical cannabis program. We also spoke at events held in the Capitol in conjunction with other groups. Click below to see our amazing secretary Kimberly testifying during the Federal and State Affairs Committee hearing!

Educating The Public

We believe cannabis education using current science based information is the key to moving a medical cannabis program forward.  We held a rally on the Kansas and Missouri state line. We have had an informational table at community events including a hempfest event. Whenever the opportunity presents itself, you will see us with our table educating and answering questions.
